On the East Coast of the United States, the heat is here with a vengeance.  Last weekend, when it was comparatively cool, I recorded some tips for keeping cool and running smart in these crazy temperatures.

All music on RunningRamblings comes courtesy of the Pod Safe Music Network at http://music.podshow.com.  This week we heard:
Nitelife on Mars by Freaktet

Running, Run/Walking (Galloway-type method) or a combination of the two.  What's the best approach for you as you tackle runs of various lengths?  This week we take a look at the subject in RunningRamblgins #13.

Injury is one of the biggest things a runner needs to deal with in order to stay on the road.  For most of us, injury is part of the game.  One tactic you can use to help prevent injury, or help you maintain your fitness level while injured, is water running.  This week we take a closer look at water running and investigate the different ways it can be incorporated into your training routine.  Direct link to the show.

RunningRamblings Podcast 0011: Breathing and Drinking

RunningRamblings

The latest episode of RunningRamblings is up (direct link to the show).

The air in DC is really bad, so we can't breathe here.  Plus, to add insult to injury, having a beer after a run isn't necessarily the best idea.  Beer, like all alcohol, will dehydrate you and also keep your body from being as oxygen efficient as it would be without.  So, don't drink prior to a race or the night before.

On this edition of Running Ramblings, On the Road Again (direct link), I run a bit long (I was REALLY rambling).  We just got back from our vacation in Rome, so there a brief trip report, we talk about for whom I run, give a few thoughts on run/walking and introduce the Running Podcasts site, www.runningpodcasts.org.  Check it out for a comprehensive listing of great running podcasts.  Thanks for putting that together, Nigel.

Today we have the fortune of trail running with three very impressive women, Ann, Christine and Lisa through Lake Fairfak Park in Reston, VA.  All are successful working mothers who still manage to get their miles in.  Anne is also the Director of the Women's Training Program, sponsored by the Reston Runners Club in Reston, VA, http://www.restonrunners.org/programs/wtp/index.htm.

Ann and the WTP have helped more than 1600 women work fitness into their lives and her efforts have been recognized by the Road Runners Club of American.  The WTP has recieved the 2008 RRCA Nina Kuscik Women’s Development Running Award!  Ann will receive the award at the RRRCA 50th anniversary meeting this May in Cincinnati, OH.  The award is given each year to one person from the more than 750 clubs which make up the Runners Club of America - So that's pretty darned cool!

All music featured on Running Ramblings comes courtesy of the PodShow Podsafe Music network at music.podshow.com.  This week we heard 14th Floor by Reggae Far East, Walk On By by Delilah Way, Blink and You'll Miss 'Em by DJOC and Rosa Maria by Jacky and Strings.

2007 Rockville 10K the Promised Land!
2007 Rockville 10K the Promised Land!

This week we take another run through an icy Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, MD and talk about... well not much at all.  I really didn't have much to say this week and almost didn't produce this episode.  At least the song in the middle is pretty good, IMO.  Give it a listen for that, if not for anything else.

All music featured on Running Ramblings comes courtesy of the PodShow Podsafe Music network at music.podshow.com.  This week we heard 202-Shinny & Happy by Beats, I'm Having a Great Day by The Alice Project, and Satelight by dt king.

If you'd like a direct link to this episode, try this link.  You can also subscribe to the show in iTunes (search for RunningRamblings in the iTunes music store) or use this link, http://www.podshow.com/feeds/runningrambling.xml, if you have a different podcast manager.  Remember, this is all free.  No way I could get anyone to pay for this junk. :-)

For the latest in the RunningRamblings world, go to www.runningramblings.com.  I really enjoy receiving your feedback, so feel free to send e-mail and audio comments to runningramblings@gmail.com, or leave a comment on iTunes.
